BN-LINK 4-Pack Heavy-Duty Smart Plugs Review
Originally recorded June 24, 2024.
These Smart Plugs use the BN-LINK app, but they are compatible with the Smart Life app, which you may already have on your phone or tablet. Setup was an absolute breeze. Early incarnations of these devices were very hard to set up, and usually didn't work right for several iterations. This one worked just like the instructions said, in just a few moments it connected right up without any technical skills needed. Plain and simple, it just works right out of the box. These plugs handle the full 15A of current, 1875 Watts.

Pool Opening 2024, Part 11 - Backwashing The Filter For The First Time Since Open
Переглядів 1472 години тому
Originally recorded May 26, 2024. It was time to finally backwash. Vacuuming out all the green to waste, manually, did the trick so it seems. When the filter pressure on the gauge reads about 10 PSI higher than with a clean filter, it's time to backwash. Shut the pump, turn the multiport valve (or adjust the valves on your equipment) to the backwash position and turn the pump back on. Watch the...
Valorise 2.4GHz Wireless Gaming Headset Review

Originally recorded May 23, 2024. Nice wireless headset. Easy hookup, plug the transceiver into any USB port, turn the switch on the headset on, and it's paired and ready to go. The wireless connection is on the 2.4GHz band, not Bluetooth, so there's negligible latency. But is also does have Bluetooth built in so if you want to pair it that way, or with your phone or tablet, you can. In additio...
Pool Opening 2024, Part 10 - First Manual Vacuuming Of 2024
Переглядів 1977 годин тому
Originally recorded May 24, 2024. Since no amount of chlorine tabs, shock, algaecide, or hand grenades will budge the green-ness in the pool, there's only one way to remove it. To manually vacuum, it takes a little preparation a...

Originally recorded May 21, 2024. This video demonstrates one way to add chlorine shock to a pool. I HIGHLY SUGGEST you follow the directions on the package. Nice smart plugs. I have 4 smart plugs and they’re called Mesh Smart Plugs. I set up 3. Mini Lights, Front Lights, and Plasma Globe Lights. Mini Lights turn off at daytime and on at nighttime. Front Lights turn on when it’s raining, and it turns on 30 minutes after sunset and turns off at 11:30 PM. And for Plasma Globe Lights, they turn off 30 minutes before sunrise and turn on 30 minutes after sunset. So I have a total of 4 smart plugs plugged in. 1 Gosund, and 3 Mesh.

    Why did you install it in the first place? It can also shorten the life of the compressor motor. Those things are only for old units which have trouble starting. You just dont install one for nothing.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 День тому

      The video actually explained all of that, if you watched all the way through. You are correct, a hard start kit can shorten the life of the compressor, *BUT ONLY IF* the run capacitor is failing. In addition, these Rectorseal kits include a relay that cut the entire unit out of circuit as soon as the compressor starts. Many install hard start kits on brand new units and have great success and extra long lifespans. So you are incorrect that these are only used for old systems, typically an older system would have poor wiring connections and almost guaranteed a poor capacitance value, rendering it nothing more than a band-aid.

    • @RadioRich100
      @RadioRich100 День тому

      @@jaykay18 Thats all a hardstart kit is - a bandaid. You would be foolish to install one on a new unit, warranty violated and compressor could suffer whether the cap is good or not. If your system has a bad cap why dont you just replace it?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 День тому

      @@RadioRich100 Who said anything about a bad cap? I certainly never did, and obviously if I'm going through all this trouble I would have just replaced the cap. A hard start kit IS INDEED a good thing to have, even if it's not really necessary. I have a 2 Rheem units myself, a 1 aught cable feeding the house 200 amps, first house on the circuit, and a hard start kit makes a WORLD of difference.

    • @RadioRich100
      @RadioRich100 День тому

      @@jaykay18 Its going to make a world of difference when your unit wont start and an authorized tech tells you, your start winding is blown and you negated your warranty. A hard start is a last ditch effort to start an old compressor. And if you use one of those or a soft start you asking for premature failure. Do you really think that the people making these things know more than the people who designed your system to run without extra add on gadgets? I would like to know what "WORLD" of difference it could possibly make? You mean it blows colder air? I dont think so. The company that makes them sure wants you to think so.

    Really nice. The pool is looking better. I have had to manually vacuum a pool, but not this bad. I know it been worse for you in previous years so at least it’s less work. As far as the top fitting on the vacuum. There are ways to solve it. One way is to put a in line leaf canister. The way it works is some will come with a hose, you plug the hose directly into the hole at the bottom of the skimmer removing the skimmer basket and plate. the vacuum hose connection will be way in the water so you would have the depth of the skimmer mouth you can vacuum which means more vacuuming if you need it. Also I believe you said the hose does not reach that well to the other end of the pool so a canister will help extend the hose further.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 2 дні тому

      Interesting, the leaf canister might be useful. I still like working in thirds on the pool vacuuming it,, keeps from overloading the drywell. Not to mention, if I had the canister and the ability to vacuum longer, I can get water out of the pool way faster than I can in. So that means it mght take a day or two for a refill.

    • @electricalsmokealarmsandmo1564

      @jaykay18 2 дні тому

      You're welcome. Your pool guy might have been doing the right thing for you, because this happened as soon as you let him go. Keeping the pool maintained is what prevents the algae in the first place. I can do my weekly pool maintenance in about 15-20 minutes a week. If I skip it for some reason, algae will start. While there may be some truth to that video, algae is like any other living thing, there are remains after it's dead. There's no way that algae immediately left the pool, it's impossible. Vacuuming it out is what does the trick here, not causing any pollution or anything, just using plain water that's in the pool already to do the work.

      I guess I’ll just pick one and hope for the best. I have changed the Spider gasket before but looks like I need to replace the vari-flo valve totally (leaking) and DE flowing back into the pool. Question : the pool is running now. I do not have to do anything special to begin the process since there is water in the system? I will also likely place/glue a new gasket.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 2 дні тому

      @@michellekaminsky1057 As long as the one you get is the right size and shape (like I showed in the video), it should work. My pool was running when I did mine, no special setup required, just shut it off, leave it for a couple minutes for the water to settle, and change it out. You can inspect the existing spider gasket. Mine was old but was still pliable and I had no other issues as such. If you have DE flowing back to the pool, that may be because the filter needs to be cleaned. If you haven't opened it and cleaned it, you'd be amazed at home much is left behind even after backwashing. That may be why DE is going back to the pool. It was in my case, until I opened and cleaned the filter.

    I just fixed this in my 2002 Camry and it worked! And I'm not handy with cars at all. But I watched it three times and took my laptop to the car, did the test, bought the switch at the parts store, and had it installed in five minutes. Worked like a charm. YAY! I don't even want to know what this would have cost to fix, and it's 98 degrees outside, and hotter inside the car. THANK YOU!!!

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 2 дні тому

      This could have cost hundreds to even a thousand or two, depending on how uncrupulous your mechanic is. Imagine an honest mechanic, familiar with this problem, and him telling you it would be maybe 50 or 75 dollars to fix the A/C. For that small amount of money, you'd remember this guy and what he did for you immediately, and the next time you have a problem with your car, that's where you'd go. Too bad they don't think that way. Sometimes it's best to do small, quick services that people will remember you by, so they will come again next time.

    it's nice how the rubber part on a nearly 20 year old leaf net would be intact whereas the one I got just 2 years ago already has that same part cracking and eventually breaking off. That's how much the quality of pool maintenance tools have changed in the matter of just 2 decades. Everything's getting cheaper and cheaper with even winter pool covers that used to last 6 years now only lasting about 1 year before they develop holes in them. I used to have a vacuum head that almost lasted 15 years before eventually becoming brittle and breaking. Pool tools today would now only last about 5 years at their longest before becoming brittle and eventually getting broken. You're right about brushing the algae because when I brush algae off the bottom of the pool, it will sometimes return to that same spot despite super chlorination since some types of algae are more tolerant of chlorine than others especially mustard algae which is why vacuuming it out to waste is the only way to remove it. Brushing it can also make the filter clog up faster than simply vacuuming out out of the pool which would then require more backwashing with sand and DE filters with cartridge filters being a nightmare to clean after brushing the pool.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 2 дні тому

      I know exactly what you mean. But then again, 20 years ago, if you needed a pool tool, you would think of the pool store near you and not online shopping. Now with the proliferation of that, and other makers of pool tools that are compatible and comparable with the name brand stuff, you can have replacements in just a couple days.

      By reading the manual. No manual? LOST the manual *already?* You _could have:_ 1. Tried a number of different things on your own, it's not like you're going to mess up the device 2. Read the video description, where I so helpfully put the link to the Amazon listing page, and also announced it in the video. 3. Visited the Amazon listing page, perhaps you might find the information right there. Or, if not: 4. Checked the Amazon listing page very carefully, where you then would have found the manual available for download digitally as a PDF file, for reference at a moment's notice in the future. BUT INSTEAD, you wasted my time. Hopefully, you've learned an important lesson, which is to exhaust all possible resources you have available at your disposal first, then and only then ask for help.

      If my memory serves me correctly, that indicates the planar board (IBMspeak for motherboard) is bad and needs to be replaced. My recommendation is to tear down the entire machine and WASH the board in the sink. Let it air dry thoroughly for a few days. If there are any socketed chips, remove them, spray DeOxIt in the sockets, and reinstall. You never know, you might just fix it.

    I know you have to vacuum out the leaves and debris from the pool but could you just brush the green to get it off the liner and suspended in the water and let the filter take care of it? I guess vacuuming is possibly quicker but then you have to fill the pool again. Just a thought that went through my mind while watching this. Of course I'm not an expert on filters as I don't have one. I know I don't because people have told me I need a filter. ;)

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 4 дні тому

      The filter is really designed to maintain the clarity of the water, and of course does double-duty when the pool is first opened. But again, it's really meant for ongoing maintenance. Getting all that suspended in the water means a lot to filter out, and that means a lot of backwashing and filter media (DE) changes. I went through that in 2020. Vacuuming has ONE inlet open, so a lot less water goes out in the same amount of time, plus that goes OUT of the pool completely, bypassing the filter entirely. Best to just get rid of it. My grandmother grew up in the Great Depression and would not flush the toilet unless there were solids in it. All to save water. That's not a good idea. Even with today's insanity prices, and my insane water company that charges some of the highest water rates in the NATION, a 1.6gpf toilet would cost me 1.6 cents. I can afford that. Har har!

      @@jaykay18 At the cottage our toilet rules used to be "If it's yellow then it's mellow. If it's brown flush it down." This is because we used to have a 1929 vintage septic system and we did our best to not over tax it. the toilet got quite ripe at times. Eventually all our sinks and the shower just dumped on the ground under the house and the only thing connected to the septic was the toilet. In the 80's all that changed when we had a brand new system installed. Now we can flush whenever we want and nothing dumps on the ground anymore.
